Wooden table cafe
An Argentine cafe right here in the Bay. Part bakery, part chocolateria, yerba mate dispensary, coffee shop and cafe complete with fun monthly events. Plus, we have an in-store tienda packed with local and imported goods. Good lord, we even have a llama!
We live in Oakland, we work in Oakland and we invest in Oakland. Yes, we’ve got some Oakland pride going. That’s why we use brethren local suppliers whenever possible and participate in and support local causes that are close to our hearts.
Our head baker, Andrés, hails from Buenos Aires, and our many of our employees come other countries as well, including the nation of Texas. We are proud of our heritages and relish sharing them with our customers.
Wooden Table is proud to be an LGBTQ-certified business. We celebrate the rainbow in all its colors, because we are the rainbow. All of our events are queer-friendly. You are welcome here.
Wooden Table is owned and operated by the dynamic duo and couple – Andrés and Citabria Ozzuna. Our head baker, Andrés, grew up outside of Buenos Aires and learned to cook from their grandmother. “It is from her that I inherited my love of cooking. I remember being next to her at our wooden table making raviolis, gnochi, tarts every weekend! A whole spoonful of dulce de leche in my mouth as a reward when she wasn’t looking.”
We named our company after this shared wooden table – to honor the heritage on which our company’s recipes are founded as well as the shared experience of cooking and eating that fosters love and community.
We bake all of our offerings from scratch using all natural ingredients, just like grandma did. Real butter, eggs, milk and sugar. Instead of using “natural flavorings,” we use actual vanilla, peppermint oil, cinnamon, 64% dark, fair trade chocolate and lemon extract, because real ingredients translate into yummier products. We don’t use preservatives, because fresh is just how grandma rolled.
What we care about
Argentinians are lucky to have a sharing culture. We share yerba mate, food, music, close embraces and tight spaces. Nothing makes us happier than family and friends new and old eating, drinking and spending time together. We believe we are truly sweeter together.
And as an immigrant-owned, women-led, LGBTQ-certified business, we know from experience that together means all of us. Wooden Table Baking embraces, celebrates and supports its Latinx, trans, and immigrant employees, customers and allies to make sure we all enjoy the sweetness.
We are always honored to participate in local events and to support local organizations that we care about. Some of our recent donations/ appearances include:
- No Immigrants No Spice BBQ Without Borders
- wayOUT Bay Area Gala
- BayAreaMade Market & Showcase
- 15th Annual Queer Women of Color Film Festival
- PixPride at Pixar Studios
- Abrazo Queer Tango
